Holy Family Institute Retreat
What a beautiful three days this past weekend!  I was touched by Fr. Jeff's talks and now I will study St. Paul more carefully.  I was not able to purchase many of the books the Daughters of St. Paul had on display, but I'll order some I've been thinking about very soon.  God bless each and everyone who was present.  Even though I was not able to personally visit with everyone, their presence during these three days of prayer fill all of us with many blessings.  God Bless the Pauline Family and especially the Holy Family Institute.  Buzz.
Matthew 1:1-16
This Gospel reading is very interesting to me.  It first of all gives the genealogy of Jesus starting with Abraham and ending with Joseph, the husband of Mary 'Of her was born Jesus, who is called the Christ.'  In his homily this morning, Fr. John talked abut the genealogy and why we read it year after year on the Feast of Mary's Birthday.  I've often wondered why we read this list of names, most of whom I've never heard of, except once each year.  Fr. said that  it's given to us to remind us of the humanity of Jesus.  He said that we all can relate to Jesus as God, but we mostly forget that Jesus was human like us, with all our frailities except sin.  He further said that some of the characters listed in this list of Jesus' ancestors were not the best folks at that time.  Even David's line was passed down through a woman who was the wife of Uriah, one of his generals who was killed so that David could marry his wife.  That brings me to the conlcusion that we need to understand that Jesus is really human like us and that he understands when we fall because of our weaknesses or faults.  After the gospel gives the list of Jesus' ancestors it tell us that Joseph and Mary were betrothed, but Mary was pregnant before they lived together.  Joseph was going to divorce her quietly, but an angel told him that the baby was to be born and would save his people from their sins, Joseph also gives us an example of living in the presence and grace of God, because he accepted the angle's word at face value, as we should also accept God's Designs in our lives and live by them.  May God be Blessed and may He be better known through the Pauline Family.  buzz.
